Synopsis:

A dark and tender post-apocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war.

In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection that causes Ash’s long-dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught, they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong.

When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths

My review:

This breathtaking dystopian/paranormal romance story got me hooked from the very first page. The intriguing world of Black City as well as the unique and intense love story of Ash and Natalie totally lured me. Scenes were perfectly woven together and the pacing is really good. It’s not too fast and not too slow, which I really like in books because readers could easily follow and connect the dots.

The writing is flawless–words are all effortlessly beautiful. I love that it is written in alternate points of view because readers get to understand how Ash and Natalie truly feel and think. Elizabeth Richards, thank you for giving your readers the chance to experience the world of Black City through the eyes of Ash and Natalie. Both of them are amazing and well-developed characters with strong voices and personalities. They’re so different, yet so perfect for each other.

Be ready for suspenseful, unexpected plot twists and turns! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Black City is a story brimming with sparkling magnificence, blazing fierceness, and forbidden yet genuine and passionate love. This book will always have a special place in my heart. 🙂
