For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.
Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?
From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

Better Off Friends is the first Elizabeth Eulberg book I read and it totally blew me away. It’s beyond wonderful!
For this novel and me, it was love at first sight. The book description extremely caught my interest and never let go. As a huge fan of romantic comedies, Better Off Friends is both a want and a need. It’s one of my most anticipated contemporary YA novels this year so imagine how elated I was when I received an ARC! I wore a huge smile the whole day and guess what, that smile remained until after I finished reading the story.
The realistic experience of best friends falling in love with each other is amazingly illustrated in Better Off Friends. I adore Elizabeth Eulberg’s writing because it’s full of truth and heart. This explains why the story resonates with me.
Written in dual POVs, readers will get to know Macallan and Levi as these two characters give them a glimpse into their personal lives. At the same time, Macallan and Levi recount how their friendship began and evolved into something special. Macallan and Levi are well-developed main characters with very engaging voices. They are highly noteworthy and without a doubt, unforgettable. The relaxed and effortless disposition of Macallan and Levi’s relationship produced a natural chemistry that is undeniably swoon-worthy. Moreover, readers will appreciate the characters’ sense of humor, which I consider as the magic element in this awesome novel. I truly enjoyed reading the inside jokes and witty conversations! With its quick pacing of events, I breezed through the book. Nevertheless, I absorbed the significant moments and dialogues that led to the satisfying ending I hoped for.
A cute and uplifting tale of friendship and love, Better Off Friends shows that sometimes, the happiness we’re all looking for is simply with us all along. Grab this book for a sweet and euphoric treat!
