October 18, 2014 was an epic day filled with excitement as New York Times Bestselling authors Claudia Gray and Madeleine Roux had a book signing event in Manila brought to Filipino bookworms by the spectacular National Book Store! I am fortunate enough to attend a Q & A with both authors together with my fellow PH Book Bloggers. As usual, seeing my blogger friends is a delight!

Without further ado, here’s an overview of the Q & A and the public book signing that came after:

During the public signing, something awesome happened: my blogger friends I met Sarah of HarperCollins! We were so happy to meet her in person since we only communicate with her through email. Also, even if she was jet-lagged, she took the time to chat with us about books and Filipino food.

I really had a great time at yesterday’s signing. Thank you very much to National Book Store for a fantastic bookish event and for all the opportunities you give me and my fellow bloggers. Not only do we experience great enjoyment but also have grown to love book blogging more. A huge thank you as well to HarperCollins for the many wonderful books you publish for the world to read! Blogging about them is an absolute pleasure. And finally, to Claudia Gray and Madeleine Roux for visiting the Philippines. We hope to see you again one day! 🙂

Event Recap: Jennifer E. Smith and Lissa Price in Manila!

I’m sure lots of Filipino bookworms’ hearts exploded with happiness when National Book Store announced that authors Jennifer E. Smith and Lissa Price are coming to the Philippines. And one of those hearts was mine! 🙂

Fast forward to September 21, 2014—Book Signing in Manila!

We had a Q & A with Jen and Lissa who are both friendly and full of wisdom. I enjoyed listening to them talk about writing and their books! Their thoughtful answers are truly great motivation for me to do my best every time I write.

*You may listen to the audio recording of the Q & A here.

Meeting Jen was a dream come true! Some of you might know that I’m a huge contemporary YA fan and Jennifer E. Smith is one of my super favorite authors in that genre. I’ve always wished to meet her in person someday and I didn’t expect that someday would come sooner than I thought! 🙂 While I haven’t read any of Lissa Price’s books yet, it was still a great pleasure to meet her. She’s a wonderful conversationalist who gave very helpful writing advice.

Furthermore, seeing my fellow book bloggers made the day even better. As always, we talked about our latest reads and upcoming books. I’ll never get tired of sharing bookish thoughts with my blogger friends! Our energies, when it comes to books, become one huge ball of effervescence. We’re truly a gleeful bunch of bookworms!

September 21 was indeed a HAPPY day from START to END. 🙂

Thank you so much to the brilliant National Book Store for bringing Jen and Lissa to the Philippines! You guys are extraordinary. Love you loads! ❤ Can’t wait for the next bookish event!

Blog Tour: Proxy by Alex London [Excerpt + Giveaway]

Proxy Tour Banner
Hello everyone! For my stop in the blog tour for Alex London’s PROXY, I’m happy to share with you an excerpt from the book’s first chapter. Enjoy! 🙂
***
“Reduce Speed…Reduce Speed…Reduce Speed…” scrolled in front of Knox in an unfriendly industrial font. All the road signs and advertisements now said the same thing: “Danger Danger Danger.”
Knox waved off the Augmented Reality hook up. You weren’t supposed to be able to turn it off, but Knox had yet to find a security system he couldn’t hack. AR driving was for amateurs and accountants anyway. He gunned the car forward. The speed pressed him against the auto-cooled leather seats.
“You even know how to drive?” the girl cried out loud, her voice shrill and excited.
Knox didn’t say a word. He liked to let the growl of the engine do the talking.
He also couldn’t remember the girl’s name.
Amy? Pam?
Something old fashioned. He shot her another glance, his emerald eyes flashing mischief. He smirked.
That usually did the trick.
She was new in Mr. Kumar’s History of Robotics class, a transfer from home schooling. She liked the animations Knox hacked onto the public display on top of their teacher’s scowling face. Sometimes Knox gave Mr. Kumar devil horns or a top hat or made it look like he was lecturing them from a seedy strip club in the lower city. The girl had complimented Knox’s work on her first day at school.

P.S. We Love You, Jenny Han!

June 21, 2014, a Saturday filled with smiles, laughter, and delightful moments. When National Book Store announced that New York Times bestselling author Jenny Han is coming to Manila, I was one of those people very excited to meet her in person. I enjoyed reading her latest novel, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and was so keen to learn more about it. I am privileged to have been invited to the bloggers forum (prior to the public signing) where my fellow book bloggers and I asked Jenny Han questions about writing, her books, celebrity crushes, etc. She responded to every question with utmost sincerity and great enthusiasm! All of us present at the forum had so much fun listening to Jenny speak. It was a truly fruitful event!

After the forum was the public signing at National Book Store Glorietta 1 where Jenny Han’s fans waited patiently for her. Their energy buzzed throughout the venue which was so exhilarating to witness! I really felt their love and support for Jenny Han. When it comes to book events like this, Filipino bookworms never fail to amaze me.

Thank you so much to the spectacular National Book Store for bringing Jenny Han to the Philippines! It was such a pleasure meeting her in person! Thank you also to Jenny for visiting our country. We hope to see you again someday! 🙂

The Ultimate Bookish Event: Veronica Rossi, Tahereh Mafi, and Ransom Riggs in Manila!

April 26, 2014. I looked forward to this day since National Book Store broke the news that New York Times Bestselling authors Veronica Rossi,Tahereh Mafi, and Ransom Riggs were going to have a signing in Manila! The grand event happened yesterday and I can say it was EPIC. 🙂

First on the agenda was the bloggers forum which I’m enthusiastic to attend every time. I enjoyed listening to Veronica, Tahereh, and Ransom talk about their books, writing, and random stuff about themselves! Profound and enlightening, their answers helped me get to know them better as well as appreciate their craft more. It’s really cool to get to know the people behind the stories we love!  The Q&A was short since we had very limited time. We immediately had the book signing (which was also very quick) because the authors had to rush to the Glorietta Activity Center for the public signing.

After the forum, we went to the Glorietta Activity Center and was greeted by a massive crowd of people. The sight was truly overwhelming! I was very happy to see all those bookworms there! Filipino bookworms ROCK! 🙂 My fellow bloggers and I didn’t attend the public signing anymore seeing that the venue was fully packed. We already had our chance of meeting the authors at the forum so that moment was for the bookworms who waited patiently in line for hours. That moment was THEIRS and THEIRS ALONE.

Bonding with my book blogger friends was a perfect ending to this fantabulous day. Every moment I spent laughing, talking about books, and goofing around with them whenever we see each other in person never fail to make me happy and alive. I love you guys! *HUGS*

A huge thank you to National Book Store for making this event possible! You guys are incredible! It’s always a delight and an honor to help promote your awesome bookish events. You made my book blogging adventure worthwhile so thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🙂 Thank you Veronica Rossi, Tahereh Mafi, and Ransom Riggs for visiting the Philippines! I hope to see you again someday!

Signed books! Hooray! 🙂

It was my first time to meet Ransom Riggs yesterday! Such a thrilling experience to chat with him while he signed my books! I met Tahereh Mafi last year when I interviewed her for a teen magazine and I was so glad when she remembered me! She recalled me not wearing glasses when we met and now I’m wearing one! I told her it’s because of too much reading. 🙂 Last but not the least, Veronica Rossi! Perhaps you’re wondering why I don’t have pictures of signed Under The Never Sky trilogy books. Well, it’s because I met Veronica the day before (April 25th) to interview her for the teen magazine. Veronica’s kind and friendly in person. I had a great time interviewing her! I’ll share that experience with you guys in another post that includes pictures! So please do watch out for that. 🙂 But at the forum, Veronica remembered me! *fangirl moment* We chatted for a little while she signed my fellow book blogger Dani’s book.

Veronica Rossi, Tahereh Mafi and Ransom Riggs book signing tour in National Book Store

National Book Store brings three New York Times bestselling authors—Veronica Rossi, Tahereh Mafi and Ransom Riggs—for book signing events on April 26 at 2 pm in the Glorietta Activity Center and on April 27 at 2 pm in The Gallery of Ayala Center Cebu.

Veronica Rossi is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Under the Never Sky trilogy, a post-apocalyptic young adult series. Foreign rights to the trilogy have been sold in over 25 territories and film rights have been optioned by Warner Bros. entertainment. Described by Examiner.com as “an unforgettable dystopian masterpiece,” and deemed as one of the Best Books of the Year by School Library Journal, Under the Never Sky follows the story of Aria, who meets Perry after being exiled from the enclosed city of Reverie because of a terrible incident. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine who will survive the Death Shop, a place full of cannibals and violent energy storms. Aria’s journey continues in Through the Ever Night and Into the Still Blue.

Tahereh Mafi first visited her Filipino fans in 2013. She is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Shatter Me, the first book in a trilogy, which has received positive reviews from Booklist, Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly among others. Shatter Me is currently being sold in over 25 foreign territories and has been optioned for a movie adaptation by Twentieth Century Fox. Ostracized and incarcerated her whole life, seventeen-year-old Juliette is freed on the condition that she use her horrific abilities in support of The Reestablishment, a post-apocalyptic dictatorship, but Adam, the only person ever to show her affection, offers hope of a better future. The story of Juliette continues in the sequel Unravel Me, and the heart-stopping conclusion Ignite Me.

Ransom Riggs is the author of the bestselling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which became part of the New York Times bestsellers list for 52 consecutive weeks. The movie adaptation is currently in production which will be directed by Tim Burton and penned by X-Men: First Class writer Jane Goldman. Sixteen-year-old Jacob journeys to a remote island off the coast of Wales as he tries to recover from the tragic death of his grandfather. There he discovers and explores the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s home where he meets the peculiar children who once lived there and finds out that they may still be alive and in danger. The sequel to the book, Hollow City, continues the journey of Jacob and his friends as they flee to London, the Peculiar capital of the world.

Can’t Be Hushed: Becca Fitzpatrick in Manila!

March 29, 2014 is one of the grandest days I’ve ever had as a book blogger. This post chronicles the day that Manila bookworms couldn’t be hushed as Becca Fitzpatrick, New York Times Bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga, had a book signing at National Book Store Glorietta 1.

Prior to the event, I attended the bloggers forum where the whole PH YA Book Bloggers crew bonded a lot  and of course, had the opportunity to ask Becca Fitzpatrick some questions. Exuding a friendly, sweet, and gentle disposition, the lovely Becca graciously interacted with us. It was such a delight listening to her as she voiced out her thoughts. Her answers provided enlightening insights about her books and her writing journey. For the full transcript of the Q&A, you may head over toThe Bookaholic Blurbs’ post here.

After the bloggers forum was the book signing event! Hush, Hush fans waited excitedly for Becca’s arrival. Soon, the modulated noise crescendoed into the highest tone of cheers as Becca entered the venue. It was an amazing melody! It felt like I was watching a concert and the band is about to perform their grand finale. Anything but silence vibrated throughout the room.

That day was totally unforgettable! Big thanks to National Book Store and Simon & Schuster for making this event possible! We all had a great time! But most of all, thanks to Becca Fitzpatrick for visiting the Philippines! We hope to see you again sometime in the future. 🙂
